  5. jBase is essentially an application development system designed around a
  6. compiled language that is link-compatible with C. jBase revolves around the jBC
  7. UNIX compiler which compiles all variants of PICK BASIC source code. It
  8. produces optimised UNIX executables after first transparently translating the
  9. code to C. jBC produces object code which is link compatible with C, allowing
  10. jBC to call C functions and C to call jBC functions. Therefore by default, jBC
  11. is also link-compatible with other languages such as FORTRAN and PASCAL that
  12. are also link-compatible with C. jBase uses unique technology as well as its
  13. own filing system. jBase includes the External Device Driver (jedi) libraries
  14. allowing end user integration to other UNIX resident filing systems (C-ISAM
  15. etc) and SQL driven DBMSs (UNIX and non UNIX resident databases).
